McCurry was given the last production roll of Kodachrome by Kodak and, given that he had 36 exposures, he spent some considerable time exposing images from different locations around the world, but with the 1st and last frames shot in his home base of New York City.
The story and a link to the interview is up on NPR.
The last Kodachrome processing line in the world, run by Dwayne's in Kansas, is scheduled to shut down on December 30 of this year. I've shot many rolls of Kodachrome through the years and I love the film, but what really sticks in my mind are the 8x10 Kodachromes that an old timer photographer friend in Atlanta showed me many years ago. They were absolutely gorgeous!
